Patenting Tips and Overview
Presenter: Dave Bassett
Now that much of the world shut down due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, you may be finding yourself with more time on your hands than you’re used to having. Maybe even enough to work on that great idea you’ve had that will set the world on fire. Now that you’re working on it, you need to know how to protect it so that you can monetize it. A patent could be a great tool to have, but there are some ‘do’s and don’ts’ that you should know before you try to get a patent. At this talk, you will get the following: an overview of the patent system and the steps you need to take to obtain a patent; some good practices that can improve the likelihood you will receive a patent; and some items that an inventor needs to avoid to keep from making their own invention un-patentable.
Key Learning #1: Learn what is patentable and how to obtain a patent if you have a patentable idea.
Key Learning #2: Steps to take to help keep your invention patentable.
Key Learning #3: Actions to avoid because they might make your invention un-patentable.
